2016 Cohort:

As tutors Khoi and Andre dedicate so much of their time to ensure that your potential does not go to waste, rather is discovered, unleashed and transformed into hard work. I still recall how unprepared and apprehensive I felt about sitting the UMAT, something which initially seemed insurmountable. However, Khoi and Andre have mastered the art of teaching their students how to analytically approach Problem Solving and Non-Verbal Reasoning questions, as they have developed a set of high-quality and unique rules which students can use to efficiently and accurately answer all questions in these sections. Furthermore, unlike many other tutoring companies, Khoi and Andre play a huge emphasis on time-management skills which is key to succeeding in the UMAT and this, when coupled with the interactive nature of their teaching, enables students to collaboratively achieve their personal best in a positive and encouraging environment. However, the support Khoi and Andre offer continues after the UMAT as they conduct intensive and invaluable one-on-one interview preparation sessions, covering a large variety of questions, to ensure that you secure a spot in your desired course.

Khoi and Andre are honestly amazing tutors. Granted UMAT sucks and everyone hates it but these tutors are probably the only two that can make learning enjoyable and probably the only reasons why I put so many hours into preparation. They set up an environment where every student feels comfortable to ask questions or express their opinion and the passion in which they taught only motivated me further to keep trying. They ensured that we understood the answer and if there was any confusion, they were more than happy to go through it again - determined that we had a thorough understanding. As we get tutored in a group, some people might be nervous of internal competition, but that kind of environment does not exist in their lessons, instead an atmosphere of encouragement is provided and my entire friendship group - which mostly consists of  the students I met during their lessons - is proof of this. Unlike any other tutors, they not only cared about our academic learning but they invested time into our wellbeing and making sure we were okay and coping with the stresses and pressures of the year. Of course being in year 12 at the time there were moments when I felt demotivated and tired and flatout lazy but 1 minute into their motivational speeches and all the hardships and struggles I faced seemed like minor obstacles for the end goal - a message which they continually reminded me of in order to get me back on track. They are amazing tutors and even more lovely people. I would recommend their services to anyone.

UMAT is definitely something that's stressful and knowing where to start in preparation for it is often hard. Khoi and Andre provide a guided tutoring experience that’s unique in how they approach it. Their emphasis on group-based learning enables the students to work in an environment where everyone can share their different approaches to a problem. Furthermore, they teach a foundation for all three sections, which allows you to apply your skills to any question you come across. In my opinion, this is one of the most valuable traits as it means that regardless of what question comes up in the UMAT, there is a basis you can always fall back on. Khoi and Andre are also extremely helpful not just in teaching basics of UMAT but also in anything related such as interviews or information about applications. They’re always there for any questions and won’t hesitate a second to spend their time helping you. At the end of the day, it’s clear that they care about their students and this reflects in their teaching and the enormous efforts they put in.

I started at Khoi and Andre's with next to no knowledge of the UMAT and minimal direction of how I was going to make my dream of studying medicine a reality. Not only do they tutor the UMAT, but they also pride themselves on offering advice on subject selections and interview preparation. After collating years of student feedback on several subjects, ranging from the sciences to the humanities, Khoi and Andre offer unmatched advice for subjects best suited to your individual strengths. Everyone who they tutored last year for both medical and dental interviews made it through to their respective course (a sample size upwards of 10 students). Without Khoi's self-derived rules section 3 of the UMAT would have been a true struggle for me. In a similar fashion, the effort and determination Andre put in to improving all cognitive aspects involved in answering section 1 and 2 is what pushed me over the line in those two areas. Ultimately I can't be more thankful for everything Khoi and Andre have done for me throughout year 12, even post high school. Whether it be offering advice on "how to med" or just general advice for life. They both strive on being more than just a means to getting into medicine/dentistry, but people to rely on and who truly care about your future success outside of academia. Thanks for everything.

The rules/techniques I learnt were really helpful in dissecting the way UMAT questions worked and definitely improved both my speed and my accuracy. The learning environment was amazing and the tutors were friendly and made it feel like a family. They really cared about each student and went out of their way to make sure we got the most out of each session. I can’t thank them enough!

From my experience, I found that finding a place to begin preparation for sitting the UMAT exam was the hardest part of beginning practice, however, Khoi and Andre paved the paths for us by building a sturdy foundation to develop the depth of our understanding of each style of question across all three sections, from the very first tutoring session up until the exam day. The aspect of their teaching which I found most helpful is how they were able to relay their abstract styles of thinking so that we, as students, are able to develop our own skill sets throughout the period leading up to the exam and apply our knowledge to a great range of questions, independently. They are tough mentors, and they know exactly how far to push each one of us to seek the best results from the students. I believe that the group environment for learning provided opportunities where our classmates helped us learn but we were also able to help our classmates - it's a supportive and familial support network where everyone has the same goal and treats one another with each other's best interests in hand.

There are many out there that can tutor UMAT, but only a few that can provide a fun and engaging classroom environment.  Not only was I given the opportunity to really develop the skills necessary to face the UMAT, I was taught techniques that allowed me to adapt an approach for every question, giving me the confidence to tackle the exam. Right from the start, these amazing mentors were always there to help out whenever they could, let that be about UMAT, year 12 or general life advice. Even more, these tutors facilitated a family-like environment, something hard to find with other tutors. I was able to make life-long friends with my fellow classmates and tutors who are all still there for me even after getting into Med school. Without Khoi and Andre, it's safe to say that I would not be where I am now, studying my dream course.

Khoi and Andrè helped me find my feet after a really disappointing year 12. They not only provided me with the necessary skill set to find success in the mat, but the necessary skill set to find success in year 13. Whether it was umat related or academically related, they were also happy to discuss things with me outside of class. As they are relatively young, they are able to really connect with their students, which allowed me to really enjoy going every week. If it wasn’t for Khoi and Andrè, I know for a fact I would not have gotten the amount of final offers I received.

Khoi and Andre have an impressive track record. Their students perform very well each year, and most of them go on to study Medicine or Dentistry locally and interstate. They are more than just tutors. They always seek to bring the best out of those around them. Their innovative teaching methods, in conjunction with the humble and caring nature, enable them to prepare his students thoroughly for the UMAT. I am a former student of Khoi and Andre, and I speak very highly of both of them. They enabled me to pursue my dream of studying Medicine, and I am very grateful for their unconditional support inside and outside of lessons. Khoi and Andre were more than just tutors to me, by the end of it we became good friends. I am very thankful that I was given the opportunity to be a student.
